At Burghealth, we believe it’s the little things that make the difference, and for that reason, we pride ourselves on offering services that set us apart from the competition. One of those services includes a thorough exam that is far from just a quick once over and a brief rundown of your medical history.

Ours is a comprehensive (yet non-invasive!) exam that tests your body’s strengths and weaknesses relative to your spine and extremities as well as other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests. At our St. Petersburg, FL chiropractic care center, all new patient’s injury and performance wellness exams include the following:

Review of Medical History & Complicating Factors

Did you know that 80% of the information required for a proper diagnosis comes from your personal medical history as well as current complicating factors? We take this seriously, which is why we perform a thorough review of your medical history that may include:

  • Past injuries
  • Comorbidities
  • Nutrition & sleep habits
  • Family history
  • Review of past imaging
  • Current and past symptoms
  • Details of pain onset or accident

Vitals

A vital check (including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature) gives us an accurate picture of how your body is regulating itself and points us in the right direction to an effective treatment plan. This may include treatment from our chiropractic center, a referral to another provider, or a recommendation to have you follow up with your primary care physician.

Multi-Segmental Body Composition Analysis by Inbody

Our innovative, advanced InBody analysis device gives us a detailed overview of each specific part of your body including a breakdown of muscle, fat, water, and more.

Digital Grip Strength

This super quick test helps us determine if you are struggling with a sports activity or even a daily task like carrying your groceries or a handbag – all of which can cause neck, arm, and back pain.

Standing Posture Analysis

Our standing posture analysis gives us an overview of how you carry specific segments of your body in a weight-bearing posture. This is important because incorrect posture can lead to weakness, fatigue, and pain.

Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)

The SFMA is a test that involves seven top-tier movements that all patients should be able to complete without pain or restriction. When pain or restriction is found, we can break it down further and determine underlying issues with the joints and soft tissues or any pathological concerns.

Orthopedic & Neurological Tests

Any reputable orthopedist, neurologist, chiropractor, and physical therapist will include orthopedic and neurological tests as they are the foundation of each of these forms of medicine. Both tests are customized to meet your unique condition and typically include the following:

  • Reflexes
  • Pin-wheel testing
  • Ocular motor testing
  • Sensory testing
  • Movement testing to see a restriction or pain level provocation

Range of Motion & Muscle Testing

Once the orthopedic and SFMA tests are complete, we will perform range of motion testing. This information will be documented and used to track progress throughout your treatments. In addition, we test weakened muscles to determine if there is a functional deficit or nerve interference.

Palpation of the Musculoskeletal System

This portion of the exam is truly what sets us apart from other chiropractic care centers. Dr. Richards has received extensive training in soft tissues and ailments, making him an expert in diagnosing and treating abhorrent tissues and joints including muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments, nerves, joints in the spine and extremities, and how the brain communicates with each.

Chiropractic Treatment at Burghealth Chiropractic & Wellness

Upon the completion of the exam, Dr. Richards will review the data from the exam and provide a diagnosis as well as a suggested treatment plan. For more information or to schedule a consultation at our St. Petersburg chiropractic and wellness center, please call us at (727) 289-9148.
