“Swing your swing.” – Arnold Palmer

Players of all shapes, sizes and levels who are killing it on the golf course prove that there is no one-size-fits-all golf swing, and that in fact, customizing your swing to your body’s strengths and weaknesses is how you can play your best.

But what is the secret to figuring out how to effectively customize a golf swing? It’s all about the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) screen! Keep reading to learn more…

What is a TPI Screen?

The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) is the world’s leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to each individual golf swing. A TPI screen is an innovative assessment of swing mechanics, biomechanics, physical fitness, and movement quality that is administered by a specialist, such as our own Dr. Samuel Richards, who has completed TPI’s comprehensive training.

Ultimately, completing a TPI screen will help you understand the most efficient and effective way to customize your swing around your body’s limitations and to improve your golf game.

Step-by-Step Process of a TPI Screen at Burghealth Chiropractic & Wellness

Step 1: Before your TPI screen, we will review your medical history and your golf history as well, i.e., how long you have been playing, how often you play, pain associated with your swing, etc.

Step 2: During your TPI screen, you will be tested in multiple positions to assess your range of motion, stability, golf posture, motor control, and strength.

Step 3: It is important to note that swing efficiency is optimized when your body does not have any restrictions and is in a pain-free state. If you are in pain during your golf swing or are experiencing chronic pain, you will go through a separate evaluation called the Selective Functional Movement Assessment for further diagnosis.

Step 4: Based on the results of the TPI screen, we will create an individualized treatment plan that may include fitness training, physical therapy, coaching of wing mechanics and biomechanics, nutrition, and mental strategy – all of which are geared towards increasing range of motion and improving your swing efficiency.

Do TPI Screens Really Work?

Ultimately the success of the TPI screen is based on the efforts of each individual client and his or her willingness to complete the treatment plan designed by Dr. Samuel Richards. However, we can tell you that currently, the top three players in golf use TPI screens and certified TPI professionals. So, if the best players in the world utilize TPI screens to help with their performance, it’ll definitely give the average amateur player an edge as well.
